Upon his exit from Sepulturain late 1996, singer/guitarist/songwriter Max Cavaleraalmost immediately set out to form his next musical endeavor, the band described as one of the few bands both heavy and globally aware, Soulfly. Besides leaving one of the most popular thrash metal bands in the world, which he co-founded in the early '80s, he also had to deal with the unsolved murder of his stepson, as well as best friend, Dana Wells. Using music as therapy to overcome his depression, Cavalera put together a band that included (ex- Thorn, Nausea, Crisis, Medication, and Shelter) on drums, Jackson Bandeira on second guitar (ex- Chico Scienceand current Nacao Zumbi), while former Sepultura lightman Marcelo Dias (ex- The Mist, XXX, Slaughter, and Mayhem) rounded out the quartet on bass. Their self-titled debut album was released in the spring of 1998. After the release of that album Jackson left the band to be replaced by Logan Mader(ex- Machine Head) who continued to tour with Soulfly.

Living Sacrifice Lyrics

Soulfly

Feel your soul and let it travel all across the world
It's the journey not the destination as we know

It's the living
It's the living
It's the living sacrifice

Sometimes it feels like we can't take no more
Have to find the strength, let the spirit overcome

It's the living
It's the living
It's the living sacrifice

Feel your soul and let it travel all across this world
It's the journey not the destination as we know
Sometimes it feels like we can't breathe no more
Have to find the hope, let the spirit overcome

Learn as if you're going to live forever
Live as if you're going to die tomorrow
